Climate and Travelling season



Climate
Sri Lanka situates between six and ten degrees north of the equator, the average temperature is quite high and Sri Lanka has a very favorable climate. In the Sri Lanka the average medium temperature fluctuates between 270 and 290 C. Because the island is not very wide the sea winds can exert a moderating influence. As well as the Sri Lanka is not high warm or high cool.

Travelling season
Sri Lankan central mountain region has naturally lower temperatures and the mercury drops ½0C. For every 100 m. the mountain resort town of Nuwara Eliya situated at about 2000 m and which experiences frost on some nights in December and January. Nuwara Eliya has an annual average temperature is below 200C. In general the relative humidity fluctuates in between 70% for the day and 90%at night.
The best Traveling season for a beach holiday in Sri Lanka on the southwest coast is from November until April and for a beach holidays on the east coast is from March until September.
The monsoon-winds bring the most showers to Sri Lanka; there are rainy periods:


  • Northeast monsoon shows from December until February
  • Southwest monsoon showers from May until September
  • Inter-monsoon rains in October and November
  • Inter-monsoon rains in March and April
