6th cent, BC. Colonization by the Aryan People of Singh (Lions), which under the leadership of prince vijaya arrived from north-Indian. Vijaya is the Progenitor of all the 180 Singhalese kings who have ruled the country with very few interruptions for 2’300 years. According to tradition Buddhism was introduced in to Sri Lanka in 260BC by a man named mahinda. It soon become an integral part of Sinhalese culture. However at first Sri Lanka was divided in to different states. A man named dutthagamani (161-137 BC) united them in to a single kingdom. As well as being a powerful ruler Dutthagamini was a great builder and be erected palaces and temple. The last king of this dynasty died in the middle of the 28th century.
