Language is one of the most important elements representing the national identity. Several languages are spoken in Sri Lanka. Sinhala is considered as mother tongue.is spoken by Sinhalese people, who constitute approximately 70% of the national population and total about 13 million. The Tamil language is spoken by Sri Lankan Tamils, as well as by Tamil migrants from the neighboring Indian state of Tamil Nadu. However English is spoken almost everywhere; even in the most remote areas someone always speaks English.
