Situation
Situated slightly north of equator off the southeast tip of the Indian sub-continent and separated from south-Indian by a very narrow water way and which is known as the Palk Strait.

Surface area is about 66,000 Km2.

From North to South- 435 km2
West to east (at the widest point)- 225 km2.
